The North Carolina General Assembly’s “The Disaster Recovery Act of 2024-Part II,” signed into law Friday, October 25, 2024, established the Hurricane Helene Emergency Grant Program for Postsecondary Students to provide limited emergency scholarship grants to eligible postsecondary students who have suffered financial hardship due to the damage and destruction from Hurricane Helene.

An emergency scholarship grant shall be used to mitigate the impact of Hurricane Helene on a student so that the student’s postsecondary education in a North Carolina institution of higher education continues uninterrupted. These funds may be used to cover any expenses that support a student’s continued enrollment, including costs related to transportation, textbooks, tuition, fees, and living expenses.

Limited available funding will likely limit the per-student grant amounts to a maximum of a few hundred dollars, depending on the number of applications that are received.

How to Apply

The application period is 8:30 a.m. Monday, November 11, through Sunday, November 24, 2024. Applicants will be notified of the results of their application within two weeks.
